Chairman of the Commission for Truth and Reconciliation Surya Kiran Gurung has said that the Commission was yet to receive exact data about the number of incidents that took place during the 10-year conflict period. Speaking at a meeting of Social Justice and Human Rights Committee under the Legislature Parliament held today, Commission Chairman Gurung said it had been difficult to work on incidents and the loss occurred during the conflict period due to lack of exact data. He said that the Commission had been facing dilemma as data provided by the government, United Nations Organization and other non-governmental organizations differed from one another. In addition to that, he said the Supreme Court's ruling had caused them a little difficulty, adding that the responsibility of investigating on the incidents of conflict period had to be assigned to the Commission completely. Commission Chairman Gurung stated that the Commission will now ask for the details of the loss incurred during the conflict period to Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department and then rebels UCPN-Maoist separately. At the Committee meeting, Chairman of Commission for Investigation of Disappeared Lokendra Mallik said everyone had to extend support to the Commission, saying the SC's decision will not affect the works of the same. Member of the Commission Bishnu Pathak said the Commission needed the assistance of everyone including the government, political parties, security bodies, Civil Society, victims and international community. He informed that the Commission will bring in foreign experts for assistance in investigation of disappeared persons. Both the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission for Investigation of Disappeared, formed on February 10, have been given the time-period of 2 years each to accomplish their mandates.
