Foundation was laid today for the construction of a cricket stadium in
Budhanilkantha in Kathmandu. Prime Minister Sushil Koirala laid the
foundation stone for the stadium to be constructed at Gancha in
Budhanilkantha Municipality. The stadium to be named after founding
member of Nepali Congress late Subanrna Sumsher Rana will be built in an
area of 95 ropanis. The temporal target of completion of the project is
3 years, informed Subarna Sumsher Research Academy. The estimated cost
for the construction of the stadium to be built on land provided by the
government is estimated to be 250 million rupees. Addressing the
programme, Prime Minister Koirala said that at a time when the country
is being disgraced for its problems of poverty and shortages, the sport
of cricket had helped Nepal establish an identity in the international
arena. He claimed that stability would be maintained in the country
after promulgating the constitution very soon, and that the Nepalis who
have headed overseas for employment would also return home. BITE... Also
speaking at the programme, other ministers including Minister for Youth
and Sports Puroshottam Acharya said they were ready to provide any kind
of assistance for the successful completion of the stadium
construction. Likewise, national cricket team captain Paras Khadka said
that given the sport of cricket was well-managed, it would help in the
overall development of the country and expand diplomatic ties with other
