International flights have been postponed
International flights have been postponed till 10 a.m. tomorrow morning
due to the failure in removal of the Turkish Airlines craft which met
with a near accident at Tribhuvan International Airport. Prior to this
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal had informed of resumption of
international flights from today evening. With efforts made to remove
the aircraft through out the day resulting in no success, TIA Civial
Aviation Office informed that the international flights were to resume
only after 10 a.m. tomorrow morning. The front tyre of the aircraft of
Turkish Airlines has been stuck in the grassy field of the Airport since
Wednesday. Sources from the Airport have informed that efforts were
being made to remove the tyre using various technologies. Earlier today,
an aircraft from India brought in required technology and specialists
to remove the stuck airplane from the site of incidence. Specialists and
technology were brought in from India due to the failure of efforts
made by Nepali team yesterday. A total of 80 international flights have
been obstructed due to the incident at the runway. It has been
speculated that a total of 20,000 passengers have suffered from the
same. Airbus A-320 of Turkish Airlines traveling from Istanbul of Turkey
to Kathmandu avoided a fatal accident while landing at TIA, however,
few impacts were seen in the aircraft.
