Nepali team embarks to UAE for matches under World Cricket League Championship
The Nepali cricket team has embarked to the UAE for its matches against Papua New Guinea under the ICC World Cricket League Championship. The team was bade farewell by Cricket Association of Nepal CAN amid a programme in the capital today. Nepal will play two one-day matches against Papua New Guinea on November 16 and 18 in Abu Dhabi under the championship. Owing to irresponsibility on part of CAN, the matches that were earlier scheduled to be played in Nepal were re-scheduled to be played in the UAE. Nepal has also got a chance to play a practice match against Pakistan- a country with the status of a test playing nation- prior to its matches against Papua new Guinea. The Nepali team will also be playing practice matches against Hong Kong and local clubs of the UAE. With prolonged debate over whether or not to give the captaincy to Paras Khadka, CAN had announced the names of the 16-member national squad only yesterday. The debate had finally settled on giving Khadka the captaincy of the team in which Irshad Ahmad and Bikram Shob will be making their debut. Amid this, skipper Paras Khadka has expressed belief on his team displaying a good performance in the matches against Papua New Guinea. He said the World Cricket League was important for the team in that it would pave the way to promote the country to the status of a one-day playing nation and to secure berth in the One-Day World Cup. Similarly, Nepali team's head coach Pubudu Dasanayake has also expressed belief that the Nepali side will be performing well with plenty of time for practice matches ahead of the real showdown with Papua New Guinea.
