At least two people have lost their
lives after flood triggered by incessant rainfall swept through Itahari,
Sunsari last night. The market has been inundated by the flood. Local
Tengra river flooded into a settlement in Itahari-8 and inundated houses
there. 66 year old Ram Bahadur Baraaili of Itahari-4 has drowned in a
canal near his house and 50 year old Bhanubhankta Timsina, who went to
his terrace to see the inundated houses in Itahari-22, was electrocuted.
Albeit Itahari has been declared a sub-metropolitan city, it is clogged
with water every year due to poor management of rivers and sewage.
Almost 600 houses have been inundated after water flooded wards no 1,7,8
and 9 of Itahari due to continuous rainfall. Personnel of Nepali Army,
Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been working to repair the
embankment.
