Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee conducts first meeting
The Parliamentary Hearing Special
Committee formed in line with the new constitution has sat for its first
meeting today. A committee with Ananda Dhungana, Dr. Ganesh Gurung and
Anita Pariyar as members has been formed to prepare the working process
of the parliamentary committee formed only yesterday. The committee has
also urged Speaker Onsari Gharti to publicize the time-table for
election of the committee's president. The meeting today was held under
the chairmanship of outgoing president of the committee Kul Bahadur
Gurung in capacity of the senior-most member. However, Chief Whip of
CPN-UML Bhanubhakta Dhakal, during the meeting, had proposed to
reinstate Gurung as the committee president, to which all members had
voiced consent. However, an official declaration in this regard is yet
to be made owing to the procedure that needs to be fulfilled. Most
probably, the president will be chosen tomorrow, and all constitutional
appointments brought under the process of hearing under the jurisdiction
of the special committee, as informed by Congress Chief Whip Chinkaji
Shrestha. Formation of the Parliamentary Hearing Special
Committee was only endorsed by the House yesterday with agreement
finally reached after a long-standing debate among the major parties on
determining the strength of the committee.
