Foundation stone has been laid for a
National Wildlife Reserve to be established covering seven community
forests of Bhaktapur's Suryabinayak area. Prime Minister K. P. Sharma
Oli laid the foundation stone for the reserve today. The wildlife
reserve, the establishment of which was proposed 12 years ago, will span
over 245 hectares of land. To be opened with the objective of making it
a model wildlife reserve of Asia, it will constitute seven community
forests of Suryabinayak and Anantalingeshwor municipalities. Speaking at
the function, Prime Minister Oli said Bhaktapur would be a model
village of the world after construction of the National Wildlife
Reserve. PM Oli suggested the stakeholders of the reserve construction
to be mindful of the problems of local residents, and consider the
environmental and ecological aspects in course of constructing the
reserve. Also speaking at the programme, Forest Minister Agni Prasad
Sapkota said the government was committed towards a timely completion of
construction works of the wildlife reserve. Chairman of Nepal Workers
and Peasants Party Narayanman Bijukchhe took positively the
establishment of the wildlife reserve, but said the concern of locals
also had to be considered.
