As the next outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic approaches, authorities in the capital have agreed to make it mandatory for public bus passengers to wear masks.
The decision was taken at a meeting between Kathmandu Chief District Officer Kali Prasad Parajuli and officials from the Department of Transport Management, traffic police, transport entrepreneurs, and staff.
Parajuli says the District Administration Office would take action against people not wearing masks on public buses.
Likewise, the officials have decided to not board passengers above the seat capacity and manage physical distance as far as possible, manage handwashing facilities at bus stations, and make monitoring effective.
As the number of cases has surged in India recently, Nepali officials have expedited discussions to adopt protective measures.
