Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam has claimed that police force has succeeded in maintaining peace and security as per the available resources and equipments. Speaking at the meeting called by the Women, Children, Senior Citizen ans Social Welfare Committee to discuss violence against women including rape- which are increasing in the recent days, Gautam asserted that police were responsible for considerable works despite lax in physical resources, equipments, insufficient salaries and allowances. He claimed that the government had been 90 per cent successful in controlling criminal activities albeit there was difficulty for the same due to the less strength of police force in comparison to the population. He said police cannot do anything against law and court's decision.
Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Nilam K.C. said strict Acts had to be introduced and implemented to take action against those involved in violent activities against women and rape. Lawmakers in the meeting had demanded to create safe environment for children and to take action against culprits, saying violent activities against women were increasing day by day.
