Death toll from separate landslides in the country reaches 10

Ten people have been killed in separate incidents of landslides in Doti, Gulmi and Dolkha following heavy rain. Six people including five of a same family were killed in landslides that occurred at two places in Doti last night. Dambar Bahadur Bista's 35-year-old wife Gaura Devi Bista, 12-year-old son Harka, 5-year-old son Birendra, 8-year-old daughter Saru and daughter of 8 months Bhawana were killed when their house caved in due to the landslide, according to Daud Area Police Office. Survivor of the family Dambar Bahadur has also sustained injuries in the mishap. Similarly, 75-year-old Champa Devi Singh was killed when her house was buried by a landslide in Daud VDC, Ward no.1. In-charge of Daud Police Office SI Nawaraj Awasthi has informed of difficulties in carrying out rescue works due to incessant rainfall. Elsewhere, three persons of a same family were killed in a landslide that occurred at remote Gansera village of Gulmi's Dibrung VDC-3. The landslide hit local Khadka Bahadur Sarki's house, claiming lives of his 40-year-old wife Asha Sarki, 10-year-old son Gagan Sarki and 4-year-old daughter Indu Sarki. The site of incident is a five hour walk from the headquarters. Likewise, a boy was killed when a landslide swept away a house at Jogigaun in Dolkha's Dandakharka VDC-8. 14-year-old Raju Giri was killed by the landslip that came from above the house. His mother Lilakumari Giri is seriously injured from the mishap. The landslide that took place at 10p.m. last night after heavy rainfall has also swept away three other houses. The landslide has also claimed lives of dozens of livestock. It is learnt that 9 houses in the place are still at high risk of landslides. The Charnawati river in Dolkha swollen after continuous rainfall has also swept away a temporary bridge.
