Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister Kamal Thapa has informed the international community about the
seriously volatile situation Nepal is reeling under at present. Submitting
his report at the 23d Universal Periodic Review pertaining to United Nations'
human rights, Foreign Minister Thapa apprised the meeting about the overall
situation of human rights in Nepal. Informing about the conditions of human
rights before and after the promulgation of constitution, he said Nepal was
adopting the international laws adding he would present facts that showed
that the Nepali government was headed towards the same. Albeit members at the
meeting were made aware about the current crisis in Nepal, he stopped short
from blaming India in specific for the problem. He however mentioned that the
disruption in imports from India had led to humanitarian crisis in Nepal. He
drew attention of the meeting towards taking seriously the problems being
faced by least developed and landlocked countries while discussing human
rights issues of different countries. Foreign Minister Thapa stated that the
transport obstruction existing under the pretext of Nepal's domestic politics
had thrown the normal life of Nepali people into disorder. He said that Nepal
was able to solve its internal problems itself.
