Lifetime imprisonment sought for match-fixing accused national football players; Case filed at the Special Court


Case of treason has been filed demanding life-time imprisonment to national football players arrested on charge of match fixing. The district attorney's office, Kathmandu has registered the case at the Special Court demanding punishment against the arrested under article 3, sub-article 1 of the Act of 2046 B.S. The hearing of the accused will begin tomorrow. Given the allegation is proven, the football payers will be looking at lifetime imprisonment. After collecting evidence related to collaborating with bookies and making lucrative money through match fixing since 2008, national team skipper Sagar Thapa, Sandip Rai, Ritesh Thapa, Bikash Singh Kshetri and coach Anjan KC were arrested by the police on October 14.
