Operation yet to resume at Chatara Hydro project even after 2-year-long hiatus

Operation is yet to resume even after a hiatus of two years at Chatara Hydroelectricity Project in Sunsari undergoing construction at Saptakoshi river. Residents of Baraha VDC are reeling under power outage after the transmission line in the area went out of work. They have demanded resumption of works at the project. The Sunsari- Morang Irrigation Project had started generating 3.2 Megawatt electricity from this programme. The obstruction of transmission line is a two-year-long result of problem in the transmission lines seen in the power centres regulated by a German company. About 18 employees of the project remain without work due to the halt in project tasks. Local residents have been complaining that the Electricity Authority has not heeded to its repeated demands to address the problem.
