Court proceedings of Kantipur postponed for Sunday

The Supreme Court has postponed the court proceedings of Kantipur Publications on a contempt of court case for Sunday. Albeit, the Kantipur Publication members had arrived to the apex court abiding by the order issued by the bench of chief justice Gopal Prasad Prajuli, the Supreme Court postponed the court hearing for Sunday citing the lack of time. Apex court's spokesperson Narayan Panthi informed that the hearing was postponed for Sunday as the office only remained open for half-day on Friday resulting in lack of time. Kantipur Publication Chairperson and Managing Director Kailash Sirohiya, Director Swastika Sirohiya, Chief Editor Sudhir Sharma and Reporter Krishna Gyawali were the ones arriving to the court as per the summon. Kantipur Chairperson Sirohiya said that they were prepared to take any step to honor court's summon as well as the press freedom. The case filed against Kantipur for publishing a news report on the issue of Chief Justice Parajuli's different birth dates on different certificates is facing wide criticism throughout the nation. Journalists, human right activists, law professionals, leaders of political parties among others had also reached the court to express solidarity with the Kantipur members arriving to court for their statement.
