The government seems set to initiate efforts to study the demands made by protesting Dr. Govinda KC and break the latter's hunger strike. The meeting of Council of Ministers held today at Singha Durabr has assigned the responsibility to carry out a study of Dr. KC's demands and make him call off the hunger strike to Health Minister Khagaraj Adhikari, Education Minister Chitra Lekha Yadav and Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel. The cabinet has also directed to begin discussion with Dr. KC immediately. On the aftermath of the massive fire that engulfed Taplejung headquarters Fungling Bazaar a few days ago, the government has directed the Home Ministry to prepare relief and rehabilitation packages for the victims of the fire. The meeting has endorsed an integrated working programme for the people displaced by floods and landslides that ravaged different parts of the country in June-July, according to Minister for Information and Communication Dr. Minendra Rijal. The government has also set the limit of financial relief to be provided to the families of victims and disappeared during the conflict period at Rs. 500,000 each.
