Police have paraded the person accused in the acid attack at Basantapur
following the latter's arrest. Jiwan B.K. of Ramechhap, Pulasi, who was
arrested two days ago, was publicized in a press conference organized at
the Metropolitan Police Office today, in course of which the accused
seemed to lose consciousness. He was taken to hospital for treatment
after he passed out. B.K. was publicized after 26 days of the acid
attack. It was informed that a team of police arrested him from a rented
place at Tokha Municipality, Ward No. 6 in Kathmandu. B.K. had attacked
16-year-old Sangita Magar of Ramechhap Khaniyapani VDC-8 and
15-year-old Sima Basnet of Rautahat with acid on February 22 at A Plus
Tuition Center in Jhonche, Kathmandu. Police informed that Sangita's
family and Jeewan were renting rooms in the same house in Jhonche since
May 2012, and intimacy had grown between the two as Jiwan used to tutor
Sangita. Police further informed that the acid attack took place as a
revenge for deterioration of relationship between the two after a year
of their acquaintance. Police informed that Jiwan had purchased acid
with intention of the attack last September. However, the acid had
melted the container and he had purchased the acid again. According to
police, further investigation is underway. Sangita, with acid burns in
her chest, abdomen and leg, is currently undergoing treatment at KCM
Hospital in Sinamangal, while Sima is being treated at Bir Hospital.
