World Kidney day
World Kidney day was observed today in Nepal as well by organizing
various public awareness programmes. On the occasion of the day, a
morning rally was taken out in the capital with the slogan "Kidney
Health for All". The morning rally initiated from Bhrikutimandap
concluded at Basantpur. The rally with participants carrying various
banners and placards with awareness oriented messages like "Idea to keep
kidney healthy is its immediate diagnosis", "Start the day with a glass
of water" and "Let's exercise" among others had participation of
various organizations, Civil Society and students. On the same occasion,
a family of Thakali health workers ran a free kidney test campaign in
the capital today. Kidney patients in Nepal have increased in recent
times. It is estimated that around 10 per cent of the total population
of Nepal are kidney patients. However, appropriate attention has not
been given towards spreading awareness and treatment of kidney disease.
People have expressed grievance that the treatment cost for the disease
is highly expensive.
