High number of Youths travelling to India for Dashain expenses
After finishing crop plantation,
farmers of mid and far western regions have started moving to India to
earn money for Dashain-Tihar expenses. The number of people traveling
from Nepal to India has been increasing from the first week of the
Nepali month Shrawan. The western border Gadda Chauki has been crowded
with people moving to India for employment. Thousands of Nepalis travel
to India everyday through this border point to work as laborers in
Simla, Himanchal and Kala Pahad areas of India. The queue of people
desiring to work as laborers in India has only increased in course.
Since farmers remain unemployed for 3-4 months after the completion of
crop plantation, they are compelled to go to India due to lack of
employment opportunities in Nepal. The farmers of mid and far western
region usually go to India through the Gadda Chauki border. They usually
stay in Nepal throughout the plantation season and move to India after
the plantation every year. District Police Office, Gadda Chauki informed
that around 2,000 to 2,500 people of mid and far western regions travel
to India everyday through the western border for job opportunities.
